How the calculation works
- km/L = km traveled ÷ liters used. 150 km on 3 L is 50 km/L.
- Cost per km = (liters × price per liter) ÷ km traveled. 3 L at ₱62 is ₱186, and ₱186 ÷ 150 km is ₱1.24 per km.
- Cost per 100 km = cost per km × 100. ₱1.24 per km is ₱124 per 100 km.
Getting an accurate number
Use the full-to-full method. Fill the tank to full and reset your trip meter. Ride, then fill to full again: the liters that go in at the second fill are the fuel you used for the distance on the trip meter. If you topped up in between, add those liters too.
One tank is noisy. Traffic, load, tire pressure and where the pump clicks off all move it. Average several full-to-full tanks for a figure you can compare.
Questions
How do I calculate km per liter?
Divide the kilometers you rode by the liters you used. 150 km on 3 liters is 150 ÷ 3 = 50 km/L.
How do I convert km/L to L/100 km?
Divide 100 by your km/L. 50 km/L is 100 ÷ 50 = 2 L/100 km.
How do I work out my fuel cost per km?
Multiply the liters by the price per liter, then divide by the kilometers. 3 L at ₱62 is ₱186, and ₱186 ÷ 150 km is ₱1.24 per km.
